Leadership
A slightly different perspective…
No one knows better or has more insight than senior executive leadership into the irrevocable shifts caused by the pandemic and the fundamental changes it brought to the way we work and live. Personal and professional values, ethics, and integrity have been well-examined by most individuals, and organizations are recognizing we’re moving away from legacy, top-down organizational structures and toward relationship-based, flexible, adaptable, living organizational structures of cooperation, collaboration, and inclusion.
Post-pandemic demands on leadership are proving more challenging than the pandemic itself. We have never been faced with this scale and scope of change at this speed, while being presented with complex challenges during ongoing crises.
I’d like to share some insights emerging from my own professional and personal experiences. Having been on both sides – I see and understand both sides. I bring a unique perspective, a different approach, and some views into another way of doing things.
Over many years providing a full range of confidential professional services to organizations of all sizes, in numerous industries and sectors, that were facing complex challenges, often during times of crises, including those of COVID, the key factors that consistently made the biggest difference in successfully resolving challenges was leadership’s willingness to recognize the opportunity within the challenge AND their openness and willingness to examine their “core organizational DNA” — their deepest values — to look at not only “what and how,” but at “why.” I have found this to be true in my own professional and personal lived experience.
COVID highlighted an existing gap between us. Now more than ever, there is a need to come together to find the synergies to close that gap – to review, rethink, and redefine values.
The pre-pandemic discrete worlds of personal and professional life, home and office, have fully integrated. As individuals, we have clarified our need to do purposeful work in a culture of trust and fairness, while feeling fully valued and respected both personally and professionally.
We have what could be the greatest opportunity of our time: we have the choice to review our perspective, recognize our deepest values, and, with clear intention, take tangible steps to shift organizational culture.
Achieving exceptional performance and caring for people are no longer mutually exclusive concepts. This holistic mindset can result in healthier workplace cultures, more open communications, and contribute to positivity and growth.
